Kamagra 100 Effervescent is only one of the products manufactured by Ajanta Pharma in India. The Kamagra brand includes a number of product types like hard pills, soft/chewable pills, oral jellies, and this one, Effervescent tablets. All have a common Sildenafil Citrate content and all are indicated for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in men.
Now Sildenafil Citrate is famous for its role in the treatment of ED in the previous years until the present. It is already an established cure for ED and its effectiveness for treating ED is well-backed by a great number of research and clinical trials. Boolel M in his research, “Sildenafil: an orally active type 5 cyclic GMP-specific phosphodiesterase inhibitor for the treatment of penile erectile dysfunction” tested the role of Sildenafil as a selective inhibitor of PDE-5 and found out that the drug is able to enhance the patients’ erectile response but without having a significant effect on heart rate and blood pressure . The study, along with others are only a few of the many research materials proving ED’s capability to treat the condition.
Since the effectiveness of Sildenafil for ED is implied, manufacturers like Ajanta Pharma started making local-FDA approved generic versions of the most common brand-name treatment (Viagra) since the demand for the “more affordable” version arose. Aside from creating basic Sildenafil-pill versions like Kamagra, Ajanta also created various forms of Sildenafil like Kamagra Effervescent but containing the same 100 mg content of the active ingredient which is common to most of Sildenafil products in the market. To-date, there is no other known formulation of the effervescent product other than the one containing 100 mg of Sildenafil in each soluble tablet .
Information on Ajanta Pharma—the Manufacturer
The company, Ajanta Pharma Limited, is a Mumbai-based company which has manufacturing facilities all over India. The company was inaugurated in 1973 and has operations in more than 30 countries worldwide. It has also infiltrated the US market and has set up its operations in the country (New Jersey). The company’s Research and Development team (R&D) is focused on developing its ANDA (Abbreviated New Drug Application) portfolios. Currently, the company has 16 ANDA approvals, plus 2 tentative ones, and 11 under review by the US FDA .
According to Ajanta’s US site information, the company has 5 facilities (finished-dose) which make only high-quality medicines (generics) in various forms . Ajanta’s Aurangabad facility (main facility) in India already received two product certifications from the US FDA and the World Health Organization , with other certifications pending still.
Ajanta Pharma is well-known for its line of branded generics and it is the owner of the Kamagra product line which is a famous line of generic treatments for ED patients which is comparatively more affordable than the brand-name Viagra treatment but has the same Sildenafil active ingredient. This product line is not only famous in India but is also famous internationally, as a lot of vendors are selling the products mostly online to the international community.
Research Available on the Effectiveness of Sildenafil for ED
Sildenafil effectiveness in treating ED in patients who suffer from it is already established as there are numerous studies readily available for proof, like Boolel’s study . Aside from that, though, there are more exploring the rate of effectiveness of Sildenafil for ED treatment, like the study by Stoberg et. al. in 2010 which is entitled “Hardness, function, emotional well-being, satisfaction and the overall sexual experience in men using 100-mg fixed-dose or flexible-dose sildenafil citrate” . According to the study , regardless of initial dosing (either 50 mg or 100 mg), Sildenafil is notably more effective in treating ED than placebo. But it was also discovered that the higher dosing (100 mg) is more effective as shown by the results of the parameters used in measuring patient satisfaction in the study . Concluding the research, the authors claimed that either the 50 mg or 100 mg initial dosage is effective for treating ED than placebo, although the larger initial dose proved more effective in terms of client response and the continuation of treatment by the patients as opposed to the initial 50 mg. 100 mg is the ideal initial dose for ED patients unless otherwise contraindicated .
“Improvement in erection hardness and intercourse success with first dose of sildenafil citrate 100 mg”, a study by Muhall et. al. (2013) also determined that although the 50 mg and 100 mg initial dose of Sildenafil proved effective in inducing a larger EHS (Erection Hardness Score) than the placebo group, it was established that the most effective dosing is the 100 mg to achieve completely hard and rigid erections . Although it was recommended that the dosage be increased only if the patients do not achieve the desired effect with the 50 mg initial dose.
Sildenafil also was proved effective in treating ED present in alcohol-dependent (AD) men. “A Multicenter, Randomized, Open-Labeled, Parallel Group Trial of Sildenafil in Alcohol-Associated Erectile Dysfunction: The Impact on Psychosocial Outcomes” done by Ponizovsky et.al. in 2009 explored how Sildenafil (50 mg) was effective as an adjunct treatment for AD . Surprisingly, Sildenafil also proved effective in helping treat AD in patients as it did not only improve the patients’ sexual function (which is implied); it also helped the participants improve their psychosocial well-being as reflected by their International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and Psychosocial functioning scores . The authors, however, recommends more placebo-controlled trials to establish the initial findings .
Not only did Sildenafil prove effective in improving self-esteem, confidence, and sexual relationship satisfaction, according to “Self-Esteem, Confidence, and Relationships in Men Treated with Sildenafil Citrate for Erectile Dysfunction – Results of Two Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Trials” made by Althof et.al. in 2006 . Participants from 5 different nations (United States, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, and Japan) were tested for the psychosocial impact of Sildenafil for ED as determined by the SEAR (Self-Esteem And Relationship) questionnaire and the IIEF. The study determined that Sildenafil was able to substantially improve the participants’ confidence, sexual relationship satisfaction, and self-esteem aside from their ED being treated. Results were consistent cross-culturally and were directly proportional to the patients’ erectile function improvements .
Sildenafil Citrate in Action
Sildenafil Citrate main function is protecting the cGMP or cyclic guanosine monophosphate from degradation in order to help the patients sustain erection . It is classified as a PDE-5 (Phosphodiesterase type 5) inhibitor due to its ability to inhibit PDE-5 which causes the degradation of cGMP. cGMP levels in the bloodstream is the one responsible for vasodilation or the smooth muscle relaxation in the penile tissue, causing an erection . Since Sildenafil inhibits PDE-5, cGMP levels are maintained, thus causing sustained erections in the patients’ part. But although this is the primary mechanism of Sildenafil, the active ingredient alone cannot cause erections without the absence of sexual stimulation .
Effect of Sildenafil Citrate
Since the action of Sildenafil Citrate is known, patients can expect the erection-inducing effect of the active ingredient when taking the medication. Its effect is noticeable around 30-60 minutes after ingested, according to “Korean Society for Sexual Medicine and Andrology (KSSMA) Guideline on Erectile Dysfunction” by Ryu et.al (2013) . According to the same study , the effect of Sildenafil may be expected for around 4 hours, and its half-life in the blood takes about 3 hours.
Since Kamagra Effervescent tablets contain Sildenafil (100 mg), patients can expect the same result of erection and its sustainability after taking the product according to doctors’ instructions. There is not much difference between this Kamagra Effervescent variant and the regular Kamagra (Sildenafil) tablets than the obvious solubility of the tablets, and the claim that the effervescent product is absorbed faster than the “hard pill” .
Recommended Doses and Duration of Therapy
Sildenafil is usually prescribed in either 50 or 100 mg forms for initial treatment. But studies show that the 100 mg initial dose is more effective in treating ED and effective in helping the patients maintain their treatment . Although 100 mg is generally better, there are some conditions that do not allow the 100 mg administration of Sildenafil to patients, so the 50 mg is preferred over the larger 100 mg dose, as the 50 mg dose is still more effective than the placebo .
There is not actually a recommended course of Sildenafil treatment for patients affected by ED, as the medication is taken on an as-needed basis. Also, the length of treatment is based on the discretion of the patient to return for a second dose or a follow-up dose .
Side effects and Warnings
The commonly listed side effects of Sildenafil use are headaches, skin flushing, and heartburn. In uncommon cases, the reported side effects of Sildenafil are penile damage caused by prolonged erections, and acute hearing loss . Sildenafil is advised to be taken with caution by patients with other medical conditions like cardiovascular problems , and other underlying medical conditions. In order to avoid unwanted side effects, patients should undergo a complete doctor’s assessment for safety purposes.
Sildenafil is highly contraindicated with the use of Nitrates particularly Nitroglycerin as the resulting interaction between these two may result in a severe and detrimental blood pressure drop. Other known interactions of Sildenafil include those with Protease inhibitors for the treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C (Ritonavir, Iopinavir, Indinavir and other related products) .
Unlike the other forms of Kamagra, Kamagra Effervescent tablets did not have as many reviews as its other product counterparts, although the existing reviews say that the product is also a potent agent when it comes to its Sildenafil content.
According to the clients who were able to try out the product, Kamagra Effervescent is easy to use, effective, and without side effects. But, the product would have benefitted from more reviews, to further proof its presumed faster effect than the regular hard pills. Since the effervescent tablets also contain Sildenafil, it is implied that the product is effective due to Sildenafil potency.
Kamagra Effervescent Price, Available Forms and Dosage
When it comes to the pricing for the medications, online vendors vary in pricing. Pharmstock.com offers the effervescent Kamagra tablets for at least $6.52 each and for a minimum of 14 pieces. There is not much regulation when it comes to product pricing online, so other sites are able to charge higher for the products without much cause.
Kamagra fizzes are only available in 100 mg soluble tablet forms, although Kamagra as a product line has more items to choose from like oral jellies, regular “hard” pills, chewable tablets, extra strength pills, and the effervescent tablets. 100 mg is usually the active ingredient present in most of Ajanta Pharma’s Kamagra line of products.
Regarding the shipping charges, some stores offer free shipping for a minimum number of purchases. But when buyers are not able to reach the specific order amount, they are charged for the orders’ shipping and handling. The cost isn’t destination-dependent, though, as the shipping cost varies due to the clients’ preferences in sending the parcels. International Airmail service usually cost about $14 while the “express” or “trackable” service costs more or less $40, and depending on the vendors’ intended shipping fees.
Conclusion and Rating
Not only was Sildenafil effective in treating ED, it was also found effective in improving the psychosocial state of the patients treated with it, according to the previously mentioned studies. It was also proven effective in treating patients with AD. Studies also found out that although 50 mg and 100 mg Sildenafil doses are more effective than placebo, the 100 mg initial dose is more effective in helping patients get treated with ED, as it encourages completion of therapy than the 50 mg initial dosing. Because Sildenafil is already an institution when it comes to its effect in treating ED in patients, a lot of specialty generic manufacturers (under strict drug regulations of course), manufacture products containing the same active ingredient as with those brand-name treatments.
Regardless of form, Sildenafil products are reliable when it comes to treating erectile dysfunction, and based on the client comments, even the effervescent variant of Kamagra is also effective when used according to per doctors’ prescription. It was also said to be faster-acting than the regular pill based on the patient comments, although I think that claim needs more clinical proof. More reviews would have been helpful, though, to better give insight to the full spectrum of the effervescent Kamagra effect. But since Kamagra is made up primarily of Sildenafil, it is expected that it would give the same result as any Sildenafil-containing medication for ED.
Kamagra Effervescent is a recommendable treatment for ED, especially for patients who would like to try a new method of Sildenafil delivery in the body. Since it is manufactured by a reputable company, Ajanta Pharma, which is adherent to WHO/US FDA regulations, the product is generally safe and effective to use. I am giving Kamagra Effervescent 4 out of 5 for its known effectiveness plus its good reputation since it was manufactured by Ajanta, but I left out 1 point because it needs more reviews plus a clear US FDA approval if there’s any.
