Kamagra Side Effects Revealed!

Kamagra, containing the active ingredient Sildenafil Citrate, is an unlicensed form of Viagra that is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Manufactured in India, it is available as tablet form or oral jelly form, and people from other parts of the world can buy this product illegally. Though the product is not completely illegal, i.e. it is not approved by the regulatory bodies of United States of America or United Kingdom; it is, however, approved by Indian regulatory bodies for sale and purchase in India. Ordering the drug from online pharmacies over the internet is clearly not advisable. Kamagra is called as the generic version of Viagra, and hence it should be a prescription drug meant for patients suffering from erection problems and premature ejaculation, people still use it without a doctor’s advice. It is short acting and according to its sellers, it should be taken ten minutes prior to sexual activity; the effect is believed to last for four to six hours after administration of Kamagra.

Unlike Viagra, Kamagra is not prescribed by the doctors since it is not registered or licensed for sale. It is however widely available online and people buy this product as they find it cheaper than the brand name Viagra. Using Kamagra has many drawbacks and health risks that must be kept in mind before anybody goes for this drug.

The general thought behind using Kamagra is that it works a lot like Viagra because its sellers claim that Kamagra is the generic form of this brand name and contains Sildenafil Citrate. Unfortunately, this claim can never be tested because sellers around the world can alter its ingredients and so, the effects produced by this drug are totally unpredictable. Since we do not know the nature of the impurity involved in the product, management of emergency conditions would also take time and so, it is not advised to buy this medication from a seller that is not reliable, especially in a country where this drug is unregistered.

Kamagra Side Effects

Kamagra has a number of side effects and even if we do believe that the product contains the exact amount of active ingredient as the label claim, there can be many ways this drug can affect the patient’s health, for example, allergic reactions, pain in the chest, palpitations, shortness of breath, nausea, and dizziness. In rare cases, swelling of the extremities, headache, pain during erection, photosensitivity, congestion of nose and chest, vision changes (a blue tint appears), flushing, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea have also been reported. In addition to all the possible side effects, the drug can be adulterated or can interact with other drugs, food or even diseases. Adulterated forms of Kamagra are very common and difficult to identify because there is no way to test the product and we do not know the composition of the drug. Another important factor is that the patients do not know the health risks associated with the use of such products because the sellers only show the bright side of the picture and highlight only the expected benefits of Sildenafil Citrate use. The patients do not know if the drug delivered to them is real or counterfeited, which puts the patient at a greater risk of health issues because the outcomes of such adulterated forms are never known beforehand, and can prove to be very harmful to the patient’s well-being.

If the patient is suffering from other diseases at the same time, then Kamagra or any form of Sildenafil should be used with caution. Patients with cardiovascular diseases are not advised for use of any Phosphodiesterase enzyme inhibitor because there is a high cardiac risk; so anyone with a history of stroke, myocardial infarction or arrhythmia must never take this medication. Other cardiovascular events resulting from Kamagra use can be hypertension, angina pectoris, heart failure, AV block, cardiac arrest, ventricular arrhythmia, transient ischemic attack, tachycardia, cerebrovascular hemorrhage, palpitations, cerebral thrombosis, hypotension, syncope, and postural hypotension. All these adverse events can occur during or after sexual activity.

Renal impairment can hinder the clearance of Phosphodiesterase enzyme inhibitors and when the clearance is decreased, the drug stays in the body for a longer duration of time, resulting in accumulation and poses a severe health hazard. If the patient has a history of pulmonary disease, Kamagra will affect the disease condition adversely. This can cause pulmonary edema and eventually, it will lead to cardiovascular events that would need emergency medical attention. Hearing loss, alcoholism, and liver disease are other conditions with which Kamagra is believed to interact. Hearing loss can worsen with Sildenafil use and the patient might experience tinnitus or dizziness. This ringing in the ears has been reported in many patients who have a medical history of injury to the ear, or drug-induced ototoxicity.

Since Kamagra is mostly cleared by the hepatic route, if there is any existing liver disease, then the patient should never even consider taking any such drug because even dose adjustments will not be helpful in such cases. It is totally contraindicated in patients with hepatic impairment and patients must be counseled to avoid Kamagra.

Other than all the unwanted effects of this agent stated above, priapism, a side effect of Kamagra, can even cause tissue damage in patients who do not discontinue the drug even with painful erections. Other cases where Kamagra should be avoided are leukemia, multiple myeloma, sickle cell anemia, retinitis pigmentosa, and seizure disorders.

Kamagra Interactions with other drugs

Interactions of Kamagra are common when it is co-administered with other drugs. There are no less than forty major interactions of Sildenafil with other drugs, and in the case of counterfeited product, interactions can be numerous and impossible to predict. Concomitant use of Kamagra with nitrates such as Isosorbide dinitrate, Sodium nitrite, Isosorbide Mononitrate, amyl nitrate, and nitroglycerin are completely prohibited because they can cause hypotension; sudden fall in blood pressure can result in fainting and injuries because the patient might not be able to maintain balance. Other major interactions have been reported with amoxicillin, emitrictabine, clarithromycin, lopinavir, omeprazole, ritonavir, lansoprazole, tenofovir, riociguat, atazanavir, amprenavir, nelfinavir, hydralazine, boceprevir, indinavir, cobicistat, darunavir, delavirdine, dasabuvir, paritaprevir, ombitasvir, erythromycin, sulfisoxazole, saquinavir, itraconazole, ketoconazole, fosamprenavir, telithromycin, nefazodone, voriconazole and idelalisib. Food interactions are also common with Kamagra; it interacts with alcohol and also grapefruit and grapefruit juice. Alcohol in combination with Sildenafil lowers blood pressure and the patient may feel dizzy and lightheaded; palpitations, headache, and flushing are also common. Sildenafil concentration in the plasma can be elevated with the use of grapefruit or its juice, so the patient should be counseled to avoid taking large amounts of this fruit when taking the drug.

Conclusion

Even if it is true that Kamagra has the properties of Sildenafil Citrate in the most unadulterated form, it is not worth the risk. Buying this drug over the internet can be quite dangerous and the patient might suffer from serious consequences related to their health. Going for an internationally unregistered form of any drug, just to save some dollars, is never a good idea. Even if the product is good and in its best form, Sildenafil is a prescription medicine and should not be sold or purchased without a prescription of a medical practitioner. People who are buying or selling such drugs without a prescription are exposing the patient to severe health hazards that would affect the patient’s health, sexual life, and wellbeing even in the long run. This must be kept in mind that people suffering from impotence or erectile dysfunction should be prescribed this drug and the other people should not try this drug for leisure or enhance sexual pleasure because the darker side of this agent is not clearly stated most of the times and the label claims are so tempting for the customers that they do not know what unwanted effects they might face. According to different clinical studies, the side effects of this drug are almost inevitable, especially headache, flushing and blue or blurred vision; though people refuse to discontinue the use of Kamagra because they believe that it is helpful in boosting their self-esteem and making their life more pleasurable with regard to its claimed effects. Without proper counseling and proper diagnosis, use of any drug would harm the patient’s health and it is the responsibility of the doctor, the caregiver and all the healthcare providers associated with the patient, to educate and create awareness about self-medication and its hazards. The responsibility is on the patients too, because it is their individual duty to know their self-worth and to avoid anything that would create problems in their routine life. Most of the patients take multiple medications and do not know much about the interaction of Kamagra with those agents; it is the duty of the doctor and also the pharmacist to convey the information to the patient about all the risks and the benefits of Kamagra use.
